My Story Maker - create an individual folder to teach your child to read. The three ebooks included in this bundle are: It is a multi-sensory approach and uses a child's natural language and love of stories to learn to read high frequency words. It's great for one on one with homeschoolers. So unless you have a lot of dedicated helpers, I recommend this for small groups or for individuals. For most children is worked best when phonics is taught alongside the My Story Maker.Īlthough I've used this with classes of children it is rather labour intensive to make the My Story Makers. I found this approach to be effective for all beginners but especially those with any auditory processing issues which made learning phonics challenging for them. As children continue to make their stories they build up a sight vocabulary and start reading. So words are never learnt in isolation but always within a meaningful context. It is essentially a sight word approach but always using the child's own stories. but don't have the phonetic knowledge to be able to decipher words.
It has been super successful especially for those little folk who just want to read. I have used this method for many years, alongside a phonics program, to teach beginner readers.
